Types of Mobile Application Development Platforms

The mobile application market is one of the fastest-growing at the moment. An increasing number of users globally use different apps on their phones and tablets daily, both in personal and professional lives.

Mobile App Development Platforms

  1. Native
  2. Hybrids
  3. Multi-platform
  4. Web/HTML5

To develop these mobile applications, it is necessary to use app development platforms, including in different groups depending on their nature.

Native

Native development platforms are known as those that are developed specifically for each operating system; iOS, Android or Windows Phone. In this way, the development language is adapted to each OS.

In the case of iOS, Objective-C is used, while for Android, the applications are developed in Java, and for Windows Phone, the language is .Net.

Regarding the advantages of this type of app, they make the most of all the functionalities of the devices. In addition, they can be run offline, which is a significant differentiating point.

Of course, native development platforms also have a drawback, and that is that both the development and the updates of these apps have a high cost.

Hybrids

Hybrid applications combine aspects of native and web apps, depending on the specific needs.

They are developed with Javascript, CSS or HTML programming languages, in the same way as web applications, so they adapt to any OS. In addition, like native applications, they allow access to all the functionalities of the devices.

Multi-Platform

One of the most demanded options by developers since it allows to reduce costs and development time.

As their name indicates, they are applications that adapt precisely to the different platforms of mobile devices.

The only drawback is that users cannot take full advantage of the applications about the resources of the phones and tablets.

Web / HTML5

Web applications are developed with Javascript, CSS or HTML programming languages, three of the most popular globally.

These types of apps are compatible and adapt to all operating systems. In this way, it is unnecessary to develop an app for each OS, as is the case with native applications.

In addition, the web applications are precisely adapted to the mobile browsers of the devices.

With HTML5, programmers and developers can create web-based applications that users can run from any mobile device through the terminal’s web browser.
